ALUMINUM CX RACING RADIATOR REVIEW

September 4, 2012 by Rob Huntley

I installed this radiator and everything seemed fine. It certainly looked like a quality product. After driving 6 miles to my friends house, he noticed something leaking from the car. When I parked the car in the garage, the next day there was a puddle of coolant. I couldn't find the leak until I started the car and it heated up. It was leaking from the lower right hand side where the core meets the bottom tank (as best as I can tell).

I called CXRacing and they told me that since it had been longer than 15 days since I bought the radiator, they would not replace it. They did offer to sell me another one for half price and actually said you get what you pay for. So I took their advice and spent the extra money on a Koyo.

Applicable to: '90 - '97 1.6 liter:

The CX Racing Radiator was installed along with the aluminum fan shroud and two 12"" slim racing fans. The radiator and shroud are aluminum pieces, well constructed. All bolts and washers came included. It all bolted together quite well.

I have driven over 10k miles on my setup, and have not had any problems at all. I drive my car hard as well. I drive to and from racing and drifting events as well as participating.

The fans are universal fans, so you will have to wire them up as such.

I have the cxracing rad and altima fans, stays about 180 degrees just tooling around town even in the Arizona summer. Now on the freeway its a different story, at 3,500 around 70mph the temp would get up to 220-230 very fast, which is no bueno. I think its because the CXracing rad is so thin, its more like an oem replacement than a high performance radiator.

Running nismo thermostat, distilled water + water wetter.

i had a CXRad on a KA24DE. and it kept it VERY cool with the stock clutch fan, then i did the 2JZ swap. and i couldnt keep the car anywhere near cool. swapped to a koyo and seemed to do the trick. so if you have a big swap get a better radiator.

This is the radiator I had in my 94 Turbo 4G63 Eclipse for about a year and a half, until I started finding massive puddles under my car and realized it was leaking. I figured it wasn’t going to last too long when I put it in. It didn’t seem as sturdy as my stock one. Even though that was plastic and this is aluminum. But a year and a half is too short a life. Looking for another kind now.

My experiences with CX racing radiators were pretty positive until I actually got it and tried to install it. Doesn’t really seem like a quality build and definitely not a clean install. I had heard of people having that problem but I figured I could make it work. (I did. ) But it wasn’t easy and I’m just kinda disappointed in general.

This thing showed up at my place and I couldn’t believe I paid anything for it at all. I found it pretty cheap online and I knew not to expect too much but the packaging was a nightmare. You would think they’d take better measures to make sure it didn’t show up looking like that.  My bigger concern was the install though. Sometimes you get a great radiator that just drops right in and you’re done. This was not one of those. Between the packaging and the modifications I had to make I got the impression that these are pretty cheap radiators and I won’t be a repeat customer.

Last year my stock rad cracked and I didn’t have the money to upgrade so I just tried to replace it for as little money as I could. I got the cx racing radiator because it seemed like a good brand and was more in my price range.  There are a lot of things about it that I don’t like but I just accepted because I wasn’t as worried about the looks as I was the need for it. (The structure of the radiator is not so great – I don’t know how else to describe it. It looks like a discount radiator that someone returned.) It’s not very polished or anything to look at. The welds look bad too, and I think they are leaking.  It has worked for me  but honestly, I don’t like it.

So overall, I’d give this radiator a pretty bad rating. The price and the shipping was great, but that’s where the compliments end. Mine showed up and had damaged mounting tabs. On the top AND bottom. When I tried to get another one they gave me a hard time about it because I bought it through someone else, but it’s obviously their issue. That had nothing to do with the shipping. Big thumbs down.

My radiator from here got clogged and overheated on me and now I’m buying another one. It didn’t seem that bad up until that happened but I hardly got any good use out of it. There’s not too much else I can say about it, in terms of reviewing it; I wouldn’t get another one. That was a big upset for me because the last thing I needed is to buy another radiator.

Bought a cxracing rad and it arrived looking crooked! I couldn’t believe it. I don’t mean just slightly crooked either. There was no way that thing was fitting. Then I had to send it back and deal with all of the issues that come along with that. I hope I never have to go through that again. I was trying to see if anyone else had this problem and I came across this thread: http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?206025-CXRacing-Radiator … Same thing. But I think mine looked even worse than that if you can imagine. Save yourself the trouble!

I bought one of these after I was in a wreck and I didn’t have the money then to replace my old rad. So I went with this because I had to be cheap (plus my insurance just went up so money is tight). The price was ok, it shipped quick. I don’t know where they come from but the packaging was terrible, I’m surprised it made it here. Maybe that’s why it got here so quick. Anyway I used it for about 6 months and did some spirited driving and ended up finding a leak.  So now I’m looking into buying another one soon which sucks because I only got this one to save money.

Found this radiator for about 180 shipped off eBay, installed it and had major fitment issues. I had to drill a lot of holes and it is rubbing against the hood. I really didn’t want to deal with unnecessary work and expenses and cutting and shaving…. I think the cons outweigh the pros on this one.

Not a quality build, at all. the construction of it is subpar and it just LOOKS like it’s going to crack.  Combine that with fitment problems and it has nothing going for it. I’m not a fan.
